Frond mattresses, also known as fascine mattresses, are protective structures made synthetic materials. They are placed on riverbeds, shorelines, or in offshore underwater regions to reduce scour by stabilising the sediment and dissipating hydrodynamic forces. 

These mattresses slow down water flow, preventing the erosion of soil around structures like bridges, piers, embankments, or underwater pipelines and structures. By mimicking natural habitats, they also support ecological restoration, offering a dual benefit of protection and environmental enhancement.
